What it is and isn't. Pro uses more of what you know about the house. It's still an estimate calculated using Manual J methodology, not a certified ACCA Manual J calculation. Verify final equipment selection with a licensed HVAC professional.
Pro or Moderate?
- Use Pro when you know the R-values or have measurements worth entering: a blower door number, window areas by direction, a measured wall area.
- Use Moderate when you don't. It doesn't need the R-values, and the app calls it the right fit for most jobs. Every other Moderate field stays as you entered it if you switch.
Switching isn't a downgrade. Filling Pro with guesses doesn't make the result more accurate.
Who can use it
Anyone can pick Pro and fill out the form. Running the calculation in Pro requires a Pro subscription or the free trial. Simple and Moderate calculations include two free runs before the subscription is needed.
Step 1: the required fields
Open a project and tap Pro at the top. The bar under the selector counts what's left. You need:
- Core Requirements: ZIP Code, Square Footage, Number of Stories, Ceiling Height, Insulation Grade, Wall Construction, Total Window Area and Window Type.
- Foundation: Foundation Type, plus slab or floor details that apply to it.
- Roof & Attic: Roof Color and Attic Type.
- Infiltration & System: Wind Shielding and HVAC System Type.
- Insulation R-Values: Ceiling R-Value and Wall R-Value.
Tap Add Rooms or Try Room Scan to build the floor area from measured rooms instead of typing it. If Calculate Load is grayed out, tap it anyway. The app lists exactly what's missing.
Step 2: the R-values, or what to do without them
These two fields are where Pro jobs most often stall. When they're the only fields left, the app gives you a choice at the bottom of the screen:
- Fill in typical values enters the typical R-values for the selected insulation grade. You stay in Pro and can edit them later. Change them if you find the real numbers.
- Use Moderate switches this project to Moderate, which doesn't need them.
The same choices appear in the alert if you tap Calculate first. If you do fill in typical values, remember the result rests on an assumption, the same as it would in Moderate.
Step 3: overrides, only where you know better
Leave a field blank or at its default if you don't have real information for it. The most useful ones to enter:
- Blower Door Test (ACH50) in Infiltration & System. A measured number replaces the estimate of how leaky the house is.
- Window Area by Direction in Windows by Orientation. Solar gain differs by direction, and once entered these areas set the total window area.
- Gross Wall Area in Building Geometry. Leave it blank to estimate from the footprint, or enter it for a house that's far from a simple shape.
- Internal Heat Gains. Set appliance counts, televisions and computers when they differ from a typical home. Kitchen Load Override and Ventilation Rate have blank defaults that use the standard allowance and occupant count.
- Balance Point Temperature in Heat Pump Settings, shown when HVAC System Type is Heat Pump.
- Optional Details such as Ductwork Location, Number of Occupants, doors, and insulation type. Foam insulation in Pro also unlocks foam thickness fields.
- Attached Unit for condos and townhouses that share surfaces with another conditioned unit.
Lower on the screen, Pro also has further collapsible sections of detailed fields. Open them only for the details you have.
Step 4: design conditions
The ZIP sets the design conditions automatically. In Pro, the Design Conditions card lets you override them when a job calls for different values. Results labels them as custom so nobody mistakes them for the lookup. Leave the card alone unless you have a reason.
Step 5: calculate and export
Tap Calculate Load. Results shows the same layout as the other modes, with the extra detail reflected in the numbers. Read the Cooling Breakdown and Heating Breakdown, check the Equipment Match card, then export the PDF. Fill in Client & Job Details on the project form if you want the client, address and job number on the report.

FAQ
I don't know the R-values. Can I still use Pro?
Yes. Tap Fill in typical values to use the typical values for the selected insulation grade, then edit them if you find the real numbers. Or use Moderate, which doesn't need them.
Does Pro always give a more accurate number?
Only if the extra inputs are real. Pro lets you replace assumptions with measurements. Guessed values are still assumptions.
Will I lose my inputs if I switch to Moderate?
No. Your entries stay with the project, and you can switch back. Moderate just doesn't use the Pro-only fields while it's selected.
Do I have to fill in every field?
No. Only the fields listed under Step 1 are required. The overrides are optional.
